چکیده

Ecological multivariate systems offer a suitable data set on which to apply recent advances in information theory and causality detection. These systems are driven by the interplay of various environmental factors: meteorological and hydrological forcing, which are often correlated with each other at different time lags; and biological factors, primary producers and decomposers with both autonomous and coupled dynamics. Here, using conditional spectral Granger causality, we quantify directional causalities in a complex atmosphere-plant-soil system involving the carbon cycle. Granger causality is a statistical approach, originating in econometrics, used to identify the presence of linear causal interactions between time series of data, based on prediction theory. We first test to see if there was a significant difference in the causal structure among two treatments where carbon allocation to roots was interrupted by girdling. We then expanded the analysis, introducing radiation and soil moisture. The results showed a complex pattern of multilevel interactions, with some of these interactions depending upon the number of variables in the OPEN ACCESS Entropy 2013, 15 4267 system. However, no significant differences emerged in the causal structure of above and below ground carbon cycle among the two treatments.

Frequency decomposition of conditional Granger causality and application to multivariate neural field potential data.

It is often useful in multivariate time series analysis to determine statistical causal relations between different time series. Granger causality is a fundamental measure for this purpose. Yet the traditional pairwise approach to Granger causality analysis may not clearly distinguish between direct causal influences from one time series to another and indirect ones acting through a third time ...

Price Bubbles Spillover among Asset Markets: Evidence from Iran

T his paper investigates the existence of possible spillover effects among four main asset markets namely foreign exchange, stock, gold, and housing markets in Iran from 2002:03 to 2015:06. For this purpose, we have exploited Sigma-Point Kalman Filter (SPKF) to extract the bubble component of assets prices in the aforementioned Markets. Then, in order to analyze the price bubbles spi...

The Dynamic Relationship between Volatility, Volume and Open Interest in CSI 300 Futures Market

This paper investigates the dynamic relationship between volatility, volume and open interest in CSI 300 futures market using asymmetric GARCH model, Granger causality test, variance decomposition and impulse response function based on 1-min data. ARMA-EGARCH model is employed and find that both contemporaneous and lagged volume is positively related to volatility, and current open interest has...

Maritime Transportation, Environmental Pollution, and Economic Growth in Iran: Using Dynamic Log Linear Model and Granger Causality Approach

The main purpose of this study is to estimate the maritime transportation elasticities of the environmental pollution and economic growth in Iran within the short-run and long-run to find out the relationships among maritime transportation, environmental pollution and economic growth. The lagged endogenous model (a dynamic log-linear model that we used) is estimated using two distinctive ...

The Impact of Human Capital on FDI with New Evidence from Bootstrap Panel Granger Causality Analysis

T his study evaluates the causality relationship between human capital and foreign direct investment inflow in twenty-six OIC (the Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries over the period 1970–2014. We employed the panel Granger non-causality testing approach of Kònya (2006) that is based on seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) systems, and Wald tests with country specific boot...
